Dancing Back to Life

After quite a few years of not having dance as part of my daily life, I've FINALLY decided to get back what I've been missing for so long. I don't know what really pushed me to get back into dancing but all I know is that I'm glad I can now say that dancing is part of my everyday routine again. I wish that I'd done it so much sooner or not stop at all but hey, we can't change the past and call me a hippie - I don't care, but I do believe that things happen for a reason.

I started out just taking a couple of hip-hop classes and next thing you know, I'm at the studio at least three hours a day, five days a week; taking barre, technique, and even jazz classes. I come home tired but exhilarated at the same time. My muscles are sore in all sorts of places. But the best part of it all is that I'm loving EVERY SINGLE SECOND OF IT.

Usually, I'm a bit turned off by dance studios because of the environment; too many dancers in a class and/or dancers that do come are just there to show off. One thing I can definitely be sure of is that I'm NOT a fan of douchery, (although, I can be one myself, but that's besides the point.) I was really surprised when I found Athletic Garage. The classes are a bit smaller and, I don't mean to exaggerate, but every single person I've met there is friendly and encouraging; this includes both teachers and dancers.

Anyhoo, the goal now is to keep dance in my life until I die; learn everything I could and whenever possible, perform as much as I can. Oddly enough, as shy as I can be when sober, I do love dancing in front of an audience. Who knew that deep inside this weird geek of a person is dancer who can have a bit of an ego within a fat kid who just loves to eat? I'm somewhat shocked that there is still room to be shy with all that food and ego... *shrug*

Here's a quick look at what I've been up to lately at the studio with one of my instructors, Aukai Cain, who, by the way, is one of the best dancer/choreographer/instructor, you will find on this side of the Earth. No, seriously though, he's REALLY REALLY that good - no joke. I'm very fortunate to have him as a teacher and a good friend. Questions, comments, concerns? Just hit me up.
